When to use

Use this skill when designing a disaster recovery strategy for a service or platform: setting RTO/RPO targets, designing backup and replication, defining failover and failback procedures, and planning DR testing. It covers regional and zonal failure scenarios, not routine single-instance failures. It is appropriate when a service's availability objectives exceed what single-region HA provides, or when compliance mandates a tested DR plan. It complements multi-region architecture design (which decides the topology) by focusing on recovery procedures and their validation.
